Description
The California State Water Resources Control Board funds urgent drinking water need projects through its Cleanup and Abatement Account. The program responds to severe domestic water supply outages caused by drought or contamination, as well as other emergencies or threatened emergencies requiring immediate action to protect public health and safety. The account receives funds from court judgments and administrative civil liabilities assessed by the State and Regional Water Boards.
Projects may provide interim bottled or hauled water, or make emergency improvements to restore an adequate domestic water supply. Eligible work includes well rehabilitation or replacement, emergency interties, service extensions, system consolidation, treatment, equipment, and associated design and startup costs. Certain ready-to-proceed construction projects addressing immediate health risks or persistent water problems may also qualify.
