Description
The Drought Response Program is part of the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART initiative, which addresses water supply challenges in the American West. The program funds on-the-ground projects, modeling tools, and drought contingency planning intended to increase water reliability and improve water management.
Through WaterSMART, Reclamation works cooperatively with states, tribes, and local entities to plan and implement actions that increase water supply, modernize existing infrastructure, and avoid potential water conflicts. This work addresses drought alongside other pressures on water supplies, including population growth, aging infrastructure, and environmental requirements. Reclamation also provides a program-specific informational webinar covering eligible applicants, project types, requirements, and evaluation criteria.
