Description
E-Rate helps schools and libraries purchase eligible communications services through discounts rather than unrestricted cash grants. The State Library of Kansas lists the program on its Grants & Discounts page and connects libraries with application forms, compliance guidance, and training resources. Supported services include internet access, telephone service, and internal connections linking computers.
The Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) administers E-Rate under Federal Communications Commission guidance. USAC’s Schools and Libraries Division (SLD) is responsible for the program, receiving information about selected providers, costs, and delivered services and authorizing vendor payments. Discounts are calculated using the percentage of students eligible for free- or reduced-price lunches.
