This program funds the development and dissemination of virtual research environments designed to support collaborative and multi-location research activities across disciplines. It targets researchers and institutions specializing in scientific or academic information, such as libraries, archives, computer centers, and media centers. The focus is on creating adaptable, modular, and generic infrastructure solutions that can be used beyond a single project or institution. Projects must demonstrate close cooperation between researchers and information-infrastructure professionals during both proposal preparation and project implementation. Funding is not available for the creation of databases or research environments limited to a single research project or highly specialized topic.
