Key Information: Applicants must be current dues-paid SAS student or lifetime members and enrolled graduate students.
The Society for Archaeological Sciences (SAS), in collaboration with the Purity Survey division of Eurofins EAG Laboratories, supports student researchers seeking pilot data for subsequent competitive applications to major private and government research grants. The award supports master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation research, as well as pilot work for future postdoctoral projects by PhD students who remain enrolled when applying.
Analytical work is performed at EAG’s Purity Survey facility in Liverpool, New York. The program offers access to elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, thermal analysis, and electron microscopy techniques. Selection considers scientific merit and potential career impact, with a random drawing among finalists intended to reduce the concentration of competitive funding among repeatedly successful applicants.
