The European Association of Organic Geochemists (EAOG) has offered these awards since 1989, originally as Travel Scholarships, to support young scientists studying organic geochemistry and biogeochemistry. The programme particularly aims to foster national and international exchange by enabling researchers to work in an international host laboratory and share ideas, expertise and techniques.
The awards can also support research that requires additional funding to succeed, so their purpose extends beyond research travel alone. Funding typically covers travel and accommodation, with justified requests for living expenses, analytical work or fieldwork also considered. The programme is open to European and non-European PhD students and newly qualified PhDs working on projects related to their theses.
