Description
Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s Early Childhood Initiatives works to strengthen the early childhood care and learning system in Silicon Valley. The initiative combines grantmaking, research, collaboration, policy advocacy, and convening to support young children, families, and caregivers, particularly those in communities most affected by systemic disparities.
Its priorities are equitable access to opportunities that meet children’s unique needs, family choice among culturally affirming and high-quality care options, and a well-prepared, fairly compensated early care workforce. The initiative envisions a system in which families are not required to spend more than 7% of their income on child care. These goals reflect the lasting influence of early experiences on children’s cognitive and social development and the benefits of inclusive, high-quality care for children, families, and the economy.
