Description
UK Research and Innovation’s Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) runs this early independence fellowship to help researchers establish their own research niche and make their first step-change towards independence. It supports investigator-led research within a host laboratory, alongside training and career development in research, leadership, communication and management. Applicants should demonstrate career consolidation, productivity and high potential to become future research leaders.
The scheme funds excellent, curiosity-led bioscience across BBSRC’s remit, from molecules and cells to organisms, populations and landscapes. Hypothesis-driven research, data-driven discovery and technology development are supported. Projects without an explicit hypothesis must clearly articulate their goals, justification and potential outcomes. Multidisciplinary work crossing research council boundaries is welcome where its primary focus remains within BBSRC’s remit.
