The European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) supports 20 observers for a five-day programme at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) headquarters in Solna, Sweden. ECDC is an ESCMID Collaborative Centre and a European Union agency working to strengthen Europe’s defences against infectious diseases through data collection, analysis and knowledge sharing.
The programme introduces observers to ECDC’s role in European and global communicable disease public health and its relationships with EU Member States, WHO and other public health organisations. Activities cover public health microbiology, surveillance, scientific advice and epidemic intelligence. Observers learn how ECDC produces risk assessments, scientific advice and support for laboratory networks, while building connections with ECDC experts.
