Description
The Kansas Department of Transportation’s Economic Development Program helps fund transportation improvements that attract new businesses to Kansas and support existing businesses as they grow. Its goal is to connect transportation investment with new jobs and capital investment within the state.
The program covers all transportation modes, including roadways on and off the state system, rail, airports, and public transit. Typical projects include access roads, turning lanes, and rail spurs serving new or expanding businesses. Improvements must address a transportation problem, such as safety, access, mobility, or congestion. The program focuses on actual business growth rather than speculative recruitment and does not support transferring business activity from one part of Kansas to another.
