The Economic History Society’s Carnevali Small Research Grants Scheme supports small-scale research initiatives and pilot studies in economic and/or social history. It funds the direct costs of clearly defined, discrete research aimed at a specific publication outcome, including work with the potential to appear in leading journals in the discipline. Pilot projects may also lay the foundation for applications to other bodies for more substantial funding.
The scheme asks applicants to explain their methodological approach or sources and their contribution to economic and social history. Past awards have supported archival and archaeological investigations of medieval English households and research into British clerical workers, illustrating its scope across periods, sources and methods.
