Description
The Wildlife Conservation Board’s Ecosystem Restoration on Agricultural Lands (ERAL) Program works with California’s agricultural community to create long-term wildlife habitat benefits on working lands. It seeks projects consistent with landowner objectives, including economic sustainability, that could be replicated across the state. Privately owned agricultural lands can provide habitat for wildlife and connections to protected areas.
Eligible activities include restoring streams, canals, ponds, wetlands, riparian areas, floodplains and native grasslands; planting hedgerows and other vegetated buffers; and fencing to protect native habitat. Agricultural habitat management can also qualify when it provides significant environmental co-benefits, such as improved water quality or carbon sequestration.
