Key Information: The teacher’s local education agency (LEA) governing board must approve the program and any grant request.
Description
The Utah State Board of Education administers the Education Innovation Program and Grants through ULEAD. Utah K–12 public-school teachers can propose a class with a schedule different from other classes in their school or LEA, an alternative curriculum, or both. Schedule proposals may change attendance for in-person, virtual, or hybrid instruction. Curriculum proposals may use different standards in one or more subjects, a different curriculum, or an innovative way to deliver it.
The program aims to enhance participating students’ learning, performance, and educational experience while examining how the changes work in practice. LEA governing boards approve projects locally. ULEAD can help teachers and LEAs develop monitoring and evaluation plans and collects evidence after the class is complete.
