The Society for Mathematical Biology’s Board of Directors provides Education and Outreach Grants to individuals and organizations running mathematical biology events and activities for public audiences at science festivals and other venues. Supported through the Outreach Fund, the program helps members engage different audiences and offers people an entry point into mathematical biology.
Projects should raise awareness of mathematical biology in everyday life, particularly among people not already interested in mathematics or biology, and/or develop the science communication skills of people highly trained in mathematical biology. The program emphasizes significant mathematical and biological content, exploration of underlying concepts rather than information delivery alone, and activities relevant to participants. Projects should go beyond solely delivering the school curriculum and connect clear aims with effective engagement and evaluation.
