This grant supports nonprofit organizations serving the Tri-Counties area of Elkin, North Carolina, through funds established by Richard T. Chatham, Lucy Hanes Chatham, and local citizens. The goal is to initiate, expand, or improve direct services to residents within the region bounded by Dobson, Boonville, Hamptonville, Roaring River, and Thurmond, NC. A local community advisory committee reviews all proposals, with a preference for collaborative projects among organizations with similar missions. Grants are typically for one year and do not support ongoing operating expenses or capital campaigns, except in rare cases. Projects must be approved by the applicant organization's governing board prior to submission.
