Description
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) supplements the diets of low-income Americans with emergency food assistance at no cost. USDA supplies American-grown foods and administrative funds to states. In South Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) administers TEFAP and works with Harvest Hope, Lowcountry Food Bank, Golden Harvest, and Second Harvest of Metrolina to distribute food through local agencies.
Food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other eligible recipient agencies distribute or serve TEFAP foods. Agencies that relieve emergency or distress have priority for commodities; other agencies serving people in need may receive remaining food.
