Description
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) offers out-of-cycle emergency grants through its Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program. Considered only on rare occasions, these grants address courthouse conditions that require immediate action to prevent partial or total building loss, protect character-defining features or building users, or avert a risk of collapse. A professional must establish the need for immediate stabilization or the significant risk posed by the condition.
Funding is limited to the minimum work needed to protect the building or its users, or to keep the courthouse in use until a fuller project can be funded or the next competitive cycle arrives. For previously restored courthouses, deferred maintenance and anticipated cyclical repairs or system replacements are not eligible emergency work.
