Description
The Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) provides federal financial assistance and technical expertise to help governments prepare for all hazards. Utah’s Division of Emergency Management (DEM) administers the program as the State Administrative Agency, with FEMA overseeing federal preparedness and disaster grants. Utah makes the grant available to counties, cities, tribes, and public institutions of higher learning with established emergency management programs.
EMPG supplements existing programs rather than replacing them. Its purpose is to build capabilities that implement the National Preparedness System and advance the National Preparedness Goal: a secure and resilient nation able to address the threats and hazards posing the greatest risk. Supported preparedness efforts strengthen the whole community’s capacity to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from emergencies.
