The Emergency Response Support Grants help fact-checkers across Europe respond rapidly to disinformation during crises and strengthen preparedness before crises occur. Funded through the European Commission’s FACTEUR project, the programme is administered by the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) with seven partner organisations. It addresses information crises in which demand for reliable news outpaces verified facts and disinformation overwhelms normal response capacity.
Support covers crisis fact-checking, debunking, investigative reporting, monitoring and verification tools, counter-narratives, and communication that extends the reach of verified information. Preparedness activities include security and legal protection, organisational protocols, training, mentorship, disinformation ecosystem analysis, and cross-border cooperation. The programme also supports monitoring Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) operations and detecting and debunking AI-generated content.
