Key Information: Oral History Association membership is not required.
The Oral History Association’s Emerging Crises Oral History Research Fund supports oral history research in crisis situations in the United States and internationally. It addresses the need to begin interviewing within weeks or months of a crisis, or while events are still unfolding, when longer funding application schedules can impede timely research. Relevant situations include wars, natural disasters, political and economic/ethnic repression, and other emerging events of crisis proportions.
The fund is designed to provide more expedient support through a brief application process and quick turnaround. Proposals explain the importance and scope of the research, the nature of the crisis, planned interviews, and arrangements for preserving interviews and making them accessible for future use.
