Emmy Noether Fellowships support mathematical sciences researchers with caring responsibilities, funding flexible research support to rebuild programmes after a break or sustain ongoing work.
Funder: London Mathematical Society
Due Dates: November 30, 2026 (Application deadline, 23:59 BST)
Funding Amounts: £2,000–£10,000 per applicant; normally one year
Summary: Supports mathematical sciences researchers rebuilding research after a caring-related break or maintaining research alongside significant caring responsibilities.
Key Information: Applicants must have a PhD in mathematics or a closely related subject and an academic affiliation with a UK university.
The London Mathematical Society’s Emmy Noether Fellowships support research in the mathematical sciences, broadly construed, with funding donated by Liber Stiftung (Liber Foundation). They help researchers re-establish their research programmes after a major break associated with caring responsibilities, or maintain their research while managing significant ongoing care. Fellows receive the title “LMS Emmy Noether Fellow in Mathematics,” normally for one year.
Caring responsibilities include looking after young children or supporting a family member, partner, friend or other person who cannot cope without help because of illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or addiction. Funding offers flexible support, including additional caring costs, travel and research assistance. The scheme aims to help researchers sustain their work and reconnect with research opportunities alongside their caring commitments.
