Description
The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Engineering invites proposals for foundational research in civil, mechanical, and manufacturing innovation. This opportunity supports research through four main programs:
- Advanced Manufacturing, Design, and Operations (AMDO): Foundational research on advanced manufacturing, materials and service processes, integration into systems and supply chains, and system operation/design.
- Engineering for the Built Environment (EBE): Foundational research on civil infrastructure and systems, promoting prosperous, resilient, and safe communities.
- Intelligent and Interactive Dynamic Systems (IIDS): Research advancing the science and engineering of intelligent dynamic systems, including those that interact with people.
- Mechanics of Advanced Materials Systems (MAMS): Research on deformation and failure in engineered and biological materials.
NSF is particularly interested in intellectually ambitious and potentially transformative research, including high-risk, high-reward projects and multidisciplinary collaborations. Proposals need not promise immediate commercial outcomes or address late-stage development. The initiative aims to advance knowledge, develop new methods, enable new technologies, and train the next generation of engineers and researchers.
