Summary: Ensemble Forward supports business consulting and organizational development for New York City classical and contemporary chamber music ensembles.
Key Information: Grantees must attend Learning Residentials and an in-person professional development event in New York City.
Chamber Music America’s Ensemble Forward program, supported by The New York Community Trust, helps ensembles strengthen their business structure and development so they can sustain high-level artistic programming. It serves New York City ensembles performing Western European classical and/or contemporary chamber music, including emerging, mid-career, and established groups.
Projects may address one or two areas: strategic planning; marketing and communications; social media and websites; boards; audiences; finances; fundraising; or technology. Alongside consultant work, grantees receive tailored career training, networking, and staff check-ins. Priority goes to projects that clearly advance an ensemble’s next stage of development, expand access to this music, foster appreciation, and engage current and new audiences. This is organizational support, not funding for commissions or artistic residencies.
