Description
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), supports new interdisciplinary research communities through network grants. Networks bring researchers together with relevant science, technology and industrial groups to exchange experimental techniques, models and scientific insights, and promote mobility between universities and industry. They are expected to generate new collaborative multidisciplinary research applications within EPSRC’s remit; some may develop into virtual centres of excellence.
The programme prioritises interdisciplinary applications and networks involving industrial or other users, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises. Networks should combine varied expertise and experience, demonstrate the added value of funding, and establish collaborations that can continue beyond the award. Support covers the activities needed to build and coordinate a network rather than conducting research.
