Funder: UK Research and Innovation
Due Dates: Rolling (Apply any time)
Funding Amounts: No set limit; 80% of full economic cost (FEC) covered; project length and value flexible.
Summary: Funds high-quality, innovative research in engineering and physical sciences across all EPSRC themes, with no fixed project size, value, or duration.
Key Information: Applications are accepted at any time and assessed quarterly; resubmissions are not permitted unless substantially revised.
This opportunity supports a wide range of research in engineering and physical sciences, from small feasibility studies to large, multi-million-pound projects. The scheme is open to all research areas within the EPSRC remit—including artificial intelligence, digital security, energy, engineering, healthcare technologies, ICT, manufacturing, mathematical sciences, physical sciences, and quantum technologies. Projects advancing critical technologies (AI, engineering biology, future telecommunications, semiconductors, quantum) are particularly encouraged.
Applications are assessed on scientific quality, novelty, timeliness, and potential impact (societal, economic, or environmental). There are no restrictions on project length or value; researchers should request what is needed to deliver the proposed programme.
