Summary: ERA Fellowships support postdoctoral research, training and cross-border mobility in Widening countries to strengthen careers and research capacity.
Key Information: Researchers apply jointly with an academic or non-academic legal entity located in a Widening country.
ERA Fellowships are funded by the European Commission under Horizon Europe’s Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area programme. The 2027 action builds on MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships and supports researchers undertaking cross-border mobility to a host in a Widening country. It aims to improve fellows’ research and transferable skills, career prospects within and beyond academia, and international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary experience.
Projects combine research and innovation with training in areas such as entrepreneurship, communication, public engagement, research integrity and Open Science. Optional secondments and non-academic placements can broaden experience and support knowledge transfer. For host organisations, the programme seeks stronger research capacity, better training and supervision, and increased international attractiveness, while helping Widening countries attract more postdoctoral researchers.
