Description
The ESC Basic Research Fellowship, run by the European Society of Cardiology, enables a researcher to spend one year in a European research laboratory. It is open to basic and clinical scientists of all nationalities who are active in cardiovascular science. Candidates choose their own research topic and host laboratory, with support preferentially directed toward preclinical research projects.
The programme particularly favours opportunities to learn novel techniques valuable to the fellow’s future career. It supports project development alongside the acquisition of scientific knowledge and practical laboratory skills. Former fellows have used the fellowship for spatial transcriptomics and proteomics, cellular models of familial cardiomyopathy, inflammatory mechanisms in myocardial infarction, and proteomic studies of heart failure progression.
