The Global Evolutionary Biology Initiative (GEBI), run by the European Society for Evolutionary Biology (ESEB), provides financial, organisational and strategic support to strengthen local evolutionary biology communities outside the discipline’s traditional strongholds. It aims to develop and integrate these communities and build their links with evolutionary biologists in Europe. Supported projects include meetings that establish researcher networks, hands-on workshops introducing new tools or methods, and teaching curriculum development.
The initiative also supports regional training, local congresses and symposia connecting regional participants with researchers from other ESEB member countries. Assistance can include organisational experience, help securing invited speakers, networking across local evolutionary societies, and teaching resources such as books, experimental kits and videos. Activities that foster evolutionary biology over the long term are particularly valued.
