Special Topic Networks support evolutionary biology researchers through connected meetings and networking activities that build collaboration, link subdisciplines and foster innovative ideas.
Funder: European Society for Evolutionary Biology
Due Dates (Anticipated): December 2026 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: Up to €10,000 per two-year period, for up to six years
Summary: Supports connected meetings and networking activities in active evolutionary biology fields to build collaboration and interdisciplinary ideas.
Key Information: Proposals need support from at least three ESEB members in at least two countries and must differ from currently funded networks.
The European Society for Evolutionary Biology (ESEB) supports Special Topic Networks (STNs) to create sustained interaction in focused, active areas of evolutionary research. The initiative complements ESEB congresses through connected series of small meetings and other networking opportunities, linking specialist communities and fostering innovative ideas across previously separate fields.
Organisers can shape their network’s format, including symposia, workshops, lecture series, courses, laboratory visits, joint review papers or databases. All active fields of evolutionary biology are eligible, provided the proposed topic is distinct from currently funded networks. Proposals that create new connections between subdisciplines or address current controversies are particularly encouraged. Up to two new networks will be initiated every other year.
