    Description

The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) provides direct funding for high-quality research in intensive care medicine. The programme supports basic, translational and clinical research, alongside patient and family partnership, digital health and multidisciplinary care. Its goals include advancing intensive care research in Europe, implementing new techniques through researcher support and training, and strengthening international collaboration in Europe and beyond.

Previously called the ESICM Research Awards, the programme became the ESICM Research Grants from LIVES 2025 onward. The 2027 programme offers eight grants, including three industry-funded awards. Projects must involve multiple centres and countries, with low- and middle-income country (LMIC) involvement considered an advantage. All funded research requires the applicant’s active contribution.
