The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) runs NEXT fellowships as five-day programmes combining clinical practice and teaching at European intensive care centres. The programmes aim to broaden knowledge of a selected topic, enhance clinical skills, encourage scientific collaboration, and introduce fellows to different intensive care and healthcare systems. Participants learn through bedside activities, ICU rounds, seminars, lectures, and interactive clinical cases.
The Neuro Intensive Care edition offers comprehensive training for 30 trainees and young specialists. Previous editions have covered general intensive care ultrasound, management of immunocompromised patients, acute respiratory distress syndrome, advanced haemodynamic monitoring, pain, agitation and delirium, and ICU infection management. Across these topics, the programme connects focused education with clinical experience, networking, and professional mobility.
