Description
The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) funds local administrators through the Essential Home and Accessibility Repair Program to improve housing conditions for low-income residents. EHARP supports minor repairs that address urgent health and safety hazards, as well as adaptations for low-income residents with disabilities. Eligible work can include structural, electrical, roofing, heating, cooling, plumbing, and sewer or septic repairs.
Accessibility work can include wheelchair ramps, hand railings, grab bars, doorway widening, and kitchen or bathroom modifications. Assistance is delivered to occupants through local providers on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications from agencies seeking to become local administrators are announced and accepted periodically; no round has been announced.
