Description
The National Scleroderma Foundation supports established investigators both within and outside scleroderma research who propose highly innovative or highly relevant pilot studies. The program aims to generate preliminary data that leads to more substantial federal or non-federal research funding. Projects should culminate in applications to agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, or Veterans Affairs.
Supported areas include scleroderma-related lung disease, pediatric scleroderma, vascular and clinical manifestations, therapeutic modalities, end-organ damage, animal models, and immunology. Other areas include endothelial cell and fibroblast biology, cell signaling, matrix and stem cell biology, gender and genetic factors, epidemiology, and health services research addressing quality of life and health care delivery. Projects should address important systemic sclerosis problems, advance scientific knowledge, or influence concepts and methods through new approaches or technologies.
