Description
This Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action (CSA) funds the development of a comprehensive, Europe-wide framework to benchmark the environmental performance of industrial bio-based systems. The initiative aims to provide guidelines and data to industry and policymakers, supporting the objectives of the Industrial and Livestock Rearing Emissions Directive (IED 2.0), the Clean Industrial Deal, and the EU Zero-Pollution Action Plan.
The project will establish a forum of experts and stakeholders from academia, industry, and government, focusing on key industrial bioeconomy sectors such as pulp and paper, bio-based chemicals (excluding food, feed, biofuels, bioenergy, and health/medical devices), recycling of bio-based plastics, and bioremediation applications. The goal is to select and collect data on emerging and transformative techniques, assess their development level, environmental performance, cost-effectiveness, and trade-offs, and align efforts with the European Innovation Centre for Industrial Transformation and Emissions (INCITE) and EU Bioeconomy Monitoring.
The data and methodologies developed will support climate change mitigation, biodiversity protection, and life cycle assessment, feeding into EU policy and strategy. International cooperation and synergies with related projects are encouraged to maximize impact and adoption.
