Funding Amounts: €15 million total topic budget; one expected €15 million award for approximately 36 months
Summary: Supports a large-scale cross-border pilot of AI-driven digital platforms improving European electricity system operation, flexibility, costs and emissions.
Key Information: Participation is restricted to eligible European countries and excludes entities controlled by non-eligible countries or entities.
The European Commission funds this Horizon Europe Innovation Action under the Apply AI Strategy and the Strategic Roadmap for Digitalisation and AI in Energy. It supports one large-scale cross-border project demonstrating operational AI-driven digital platforms for electricity system management. Pilots should coordinate distributed energy resources and cross-border flexibility services in real time, improving grid utilisation and renewable energy integration while reducing electricity costs and emissions.
The project brings together energy operators, digital technology providers, mobility actors, energy communities, researchers and public authorities. Work should validate solutions on real infrastructure under changing operational conditions, including seasonal variability, renewable generation and electric-vehicle charging patterns. Priorities include secure interoperable data exchange, storage integration, smart charging, energy efficiency and scalable services, with open APIs, open standards and open-source-based components supporting technological sovereignty and avoiding vendor lock-in.
