Advancing interdisciplinary, data-driven research at the biodiversity-health interface under a One Health approach funds research teams to connect biodiversity and health data and inform conservation and health policy.
Funder: European Commission
Due Dates: June 3, 2027 (Opening) | September 16, 2027 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: €20 million expected EU contribution per project; €20 million total topic budget; one expected grant
Summary: Supports interdisciplinary, data-driven research connecting biodiversity, ecosystem health and human health through One Health and Planetary Health approaches.
Key Information: Requires at least seven independent beneficiary entities from seven different EU Member States or Associated Countries, including one EU Member State.
This European Commission Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action addresses barriers to research linking ecosystem, wildlife, husbandry, animal, plant and human health. It focuses on fragmented, inaccessible or incompatible data that prevent effective One Health and Planetary Health approaches. Projects should develop at least six complementary use cases examining major drivers of biodiversity loss and their health impacts across ecosystems and biogeographical regions.
The work combines mobilisation of existing datasets, identification of critical data gaps, interoperable analytical tools, harmonised ontologies and reporting standards. Use-case results should underpin an integrated proof of concept showing how holistic approaches strengthen resilience to biodiversity loss, ecosystem degradation, disease, pollution and climate change. Actionable recommendations, guidelines, indicators and decision-support tools should help policymakers and public authorities integrate biodiversity conservation and restoration into health initiatives.
