Integrating circularity in LCA-based modelling frameworks for renovation of buildings (Built4People Partnership) supports consortia developing circular renovation models to reduce material use, energy use and emissions.
Funder: European Commission
Due Dates: May 5, 2027 (Opening) | September 15, 2027 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: €6.75 million expected EU contribution per project; €27 million total topic budget; 4 expected grants
Summary: Supports circularity-integrated life cycle assessment models for building renovations that reduce material use, energy consumption and whole-life carbon emissions.
Key Information: Projects must apply their framework to at least three real-life buildings across different climatic regions and Member States or Associated Countries.
The European Commission funds this Horizon Europe Innovation Action through the Built4People Partnership on people-centric sustainable built environments. It supports comprehensive modelling frameworks that integrate circularity assessment into building-scale life cycle assessment (LCA), using a cradle-to-cradle system boundary. The goal is more reliable assessment of complex circular renovation strategies and measurable reductions in material flows, life cycle energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
Projects apply their frameworks to renovations whose developers have adopted ambitious circularity strategies to achieve zero whole-life carbon buildings. Assessments must cover embodied emissions from materials, products and construction, alongside operational emissions from heating, ventilation, air conditioning, domestic hot water, electrical appliances and lighting throughout the buildings’ life cycles, referencing EN 15978.
