Description
The European Commission funds this Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action to secure continuity in the production, maintenance and open availability of climate observations and projections. It responds to geopolitical changes, shifting science funding priorities and changing data access policies that threaten evidence-based decision-making. Expected outcomes include stronger European climate data sovereignty and reliable climate information for IPCC assessments and UNFCCC processes.
The action must track data availability, gaps and risks, coordinate European responses, and strengthen the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) in Europe and globally. It should lay foundations for sustainable long-term operations, including improved governance, architecture, interoperability, storage and expert capacity. Global coordination should prioritise inclusiveness, equity and vulnerable countries’ needs, while building on existing initiatives and aligning with European research infrastructures and data spaces.
