This European Commission Horizon Europe Innovation Action supports the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change. It funds development, testing and demonstration of innovative approaches to climate risks affecting both sides of national borders, including flooding, water scarcity, storms, wildfires and sea level rise. The goal is to strengthen regional and local authorities’ joint preparedness, shared responsibilities and capacity to manage systemic risks and cascading effects.
Projects should integrate cross-border governance and/or socio-economic solutions, prioritising exploration of nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based adaptation. They should establish common climate-risk classifications and acceptable risk levels, explore prediction, monitoring and reporting services, and embed solutions in adaptation planning wherever possible. Effective social sciences and humanities expertise is required to strengthen societal impact.
