    Funder: European Commission

Due Dates: February 10, 2027 (Opening) | September 16, 2027 (Full application, 17:00 Brussels time)

Funding Amounts: €7–8 million expected per project; €32,323,812 total topic budget; 4 expected grants

Summary: Supports functional genomics research on tumour heterogeneity to identify and validate novel cancer treatment targets.

Key Information: Requires a consortium of at least three independent beneficiaries from three different eligible European countries.

    Description

This Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action supports the European Commission’s EU Cancer Mission by advancing understanding of cancer initiation, progression and relapse. It focuses on the functional effects of tumour heterogeneity over time and how these effects can reveal more precise therapeutic targets. Particular interests include paediatric and adolescent cancers (diagnosis at ages 0–19), rare and refractory cancers, cancers with limited treatment options, and cancers with low five-year survival rates.

Projects may include exploratory mechanistic studies using longitudinal patient biosamples, clinical proof-of-concept studies, and observational or translational research using new or existing data. The topic encourages functional genomics, structural biology, computational modelling, causal inference and artificial intelligence. Research should connect dynamic multi-omics characteristics, the tumour microenvironment and patient-specific factors, while contributing interoperable data, digital tools and models to UNCAN.eu.
