Key Information: Requires 3–6 host cities across at least three Member States and/or Associated Countries, with most cities in Member States.
The European Commission funds this Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action to connect citizens with science through a joint, year-long programme in 2029. Participating cities will organise events highlighting recent research and innovation developments and their contribution to society, bringing together researchers, funders, policymakers, publishers, citizens, civil society and businesses.
The programme emphasises citizen science, science education and novel, inclusive participation formats reaching diverse age and social groups locally, regionally and across Europe. Activities should promote inclusive gender equality and address gender-specific challenges. Expected outcomes include stronger city science communication networks, informed public debate and evidence-based policymaking, and more attractive research and innovation careers for younger generations. The programme must also include the European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) and the European Union Contest for Early Career Researchers (EU TalentOn).
