Funding Amounts: €10 million expected EU contribution per project; €40 million total topic budget; four expected grants
Summary: Supports urban greening tools and pilot demonstrations that improve climate resilience, biodiversity, environmental quality and human health.
Key Information: Beneficiaries must represent at least four cities in four different EU Member States or Associated Countries, including Cities Mission and Adaptation Mission participation.
This European Commission Horizon Europe Innovation Action supports approaches, tools and methods to restore, increase and maintain urban green space and tree canopy cover. It connects the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission, the Adaptation to Climate Change Mission and the New European Bauhaus, while supporting implementation of the Nature Restoration Regulation.
Projects will test connected, multifunctional greening solutions in lead cities, including along transport networks or in the built environment. Work should address urban vegetation’s effects on heat, biodiversity, water scarcity, stormwater, landslides and air quality, alongside barriers to planting and maintaining trees. Native species are prioritised. Community co-design, assessment of environmental, economic, social and health impacts, and sharing results with follower cities are central to the action.
