Deploying innovative wastewater management, treatment and valorisation solutions in European cities and regions in the context of climate change funds cities' wastewater reuse for climate resilience.
Funder: European Commission
Due Dates: February 9, 2027 (Opening) | September 22, 2027 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: €28.5 million total topic budget; approximately €9.5 million per project; 3 grants expected
Summary: Funds integrated wastewater treatment, resource recovery and water reuse demonstrations supporting climate-neutral, resilient and circular European cities and regions.
Key Information: Beneficiaries must represent at least four cities or regions in four different EU Member States or Associated Countries.
This Horizon Europe Innovation Action is a joint European Commission topic supporting the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission, the Adaptation to Climate Change Mission and the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI). It funds the development, implementation and testing of integrated urban wastewater treatment, valorisation and reuse solutions in European cities and regions.
Projects should combine practical demonstrations with pathways for replication and wider deployment. Priorities include nature-based treatment, sustainable drainage, green-blue stormwater management, energy efficiency and recovery, and regional resource pooling. Expected results include reduced greenhouse gas emissions and pollution, improved biodiversity, and recovery of water, energy and secondary raw materials. Projects must also identify regulatory, governance and financing conditions that enable other cities and regions to adopt tested solutions.
