Description
The Every Heartbeat Matters Award, offered by the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education with support from the Edwards Lifesciences Foundation, provides funding to ABTS (or equivalent) certified cardiothoracic surgeons for charity surgical outreach work in underserved regions. The award supports programs that educate, screen, and/or treat underserved populations to reduce the global burden of heart valve disease, as well as initiatives that advance healthcare through education, awareness, research, and direct care. Projects that demonstrate a sustainable, long-term impact—such as strengthening local capacity, promoting independence among local clinicians and healthcare systems, and improving patient access to care—are prioritized.
