Description
Administered by the Florida Department of Health’s Biomedical Research Section, the Bankhead-Coley Cancer Research Program funds competitive, peer-reviewed research advancing progress toward cures for cancer. Its goals include expanding Florida’s research capacity, attracting research talent and external funding, increasing participation in clinical trial networks, and reducing cancer’s impact on disproportionately affected groups.
Supported work includes prevention and treatment, screening, obesity-related cancer research, treatment-related morbidities, technology-transfer feasibility, and development of investigational new drug or device exemption applications. Priorities include reducing morbidity and mortality, improving screening accuracy, overcoming resistance to front-line treatments, sarcomas, leukemia and other blood cancers, and alignment with the Florida Cancer Plan. Preference goes to lung, breast, prostate, colon, melanoma, and pediatric-specific cancers.
