Description
This UKRI opportunity is run by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and co-funded by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). It supports pre-clinical and early translational research developing medical countermeasures for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats. Projects may develop and test vaccines, therapeutics, medical devices, diagnostics and other interventions, starting and finishing anywhere from early prototype development through pre-clinical refinement and testing to clinical studies and trials up to phase 2a.
The goal is to generate evidence that improves domestic preparedness for CBRN incidents, particularly within the health system. Priorities include broad-spectrum interventions targeting shared symptoms or toxidromes, repurposing licensed drugs held in hospitals and pharmacies, novel countermeasures for priority pathogens, and diagnostic or detection capabilities for radiological and nuclear incidents. Symptomatic management of CBRN exposure is also in scope.
