Description
The Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) reimburses local law enforcement agencies for the cost of bringing dangerous wanted offenders back to Ohio from within or outside the state to face criminal charges. The program focuses on Tier 1 offenses: primarily violent felonies involving substantial risk to public or officer safety, as well as domestic violence and aggravated menacing. Interference with custody cases are also eligible.
Extraditions may be carried out by law enforcement or contracted through a state-approved transport company. OCJS may consider a limited number of other offenses related to Tier 1; agencies should ask program staff whether a particular offense qualifies before seeking reimbursement.
