Description
The Humanities Research Institute (HRI) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign offers Faculty Fellowship Awards to advance humanities and humanities-inflected research. Scholars from all disciplines and departments are welcome. HRI particularly encourages interdisciplinary work within humanistic disciplines and between the humanities and the arts. The research theme for the 2027–28 academic year is “Sovereignties.”
The fellowship combines time to develop an individual research project with participation in a yearlong interdisciplinary Fellows Seminar and related HRI programming. Each seminar meeting focuses on one fellow’s project through discussion of a work-in-progress excerpt. The program emphasizes scholarly exchange, engagement with HRI activities, and community building, alongside research that matters to the broader scholarly community at Illinois and elsewhere.
