The Faculty Residency Program provides a one-semester residency at the National Humanities Center through its partnership with the UNCF/Mellon Programs. Established in 1989 with a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the UNCF/Mellon Programs create faculty career-enhancement opportunities for professors teaching at UNCF institutions. This residency is one opportunity within that broader suite of programs.
The Center offers humanities scholars dedicated time, space, and support for their work in a residential research environment in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Residents have access to library and reference support, dining services, and an in-person community of humanities researchers. The Center emphasizes both benefiting from and contributing to that intellectual community, rather than conducting research remotely or using the fellowship primarily for fieldwork.
