Summary: Faculty Training Camps help academics strengthen undergraduate teaching in mechanical systems and construction management through intensive industry-specific education.
Key Information: The program serves academics who teach mechanical systems and/or construction management courses.
The John R. Gentille Foundation (JRGF) supports Faculty Training Camps by underwriting the Mechanical Contractors Association of America’s participation in the Mechanical Electrical Academic Consortium (MEAC). This alliance brings together academic institutions, industry associations, contractors, foundations, and manufacturers. Offered annually since 2005, the camps build academics’ mechanical-systems knowledge so they can improve undergraduate instruction and nurture students’ interest in the industry.
Each camp is held in cooperation with a college or university construction program, with instruction delivered by academics and contractors over three to four days. The curriculum connects technical knowledge with classroom teaching, covering plumbing systems and codes, isometric drawings, estimating, Building Information Modeling, air conditioning, duct sizing, mechanical properties, testing and balancing, temperature controls, and system commissioning. Teaching methods, mechanical laboratory exercises, and instructional resources are also included.
